Refuge Denied: The St. Louis Passengers and the Holocaust Written by researchers at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., this book chronicles the Blatteis family history immediately before and after their voyage on the famous ship, the St. Louis, which carried refugees from Nazi Germany in May of 1939. This story has also been memorialized with another book and major motion picture entitled The Voyage of the Damned. Attorney Blatteis’s father and grandparents were on the ship, and this very personal immigrant family history is one of the principal reasons that attorney Blatteis stands up for the rights of the immigrant community in the Midsouth. View the book on Amazon and the excerpt of chapter one which is specifically about the Blatteis family here.
